Mr. Gianulis welcomes you to come to visit the art studios at any time.
As the Arts department chairperson I am confidant that you will see some great art. We have several display cases of student work around the school. Literacy is the central focus of our Arts depatment and this becomes obvious as you see the art.
Students make connections between visual arts and other disciplines, this is a statement created directly from the state art standards. This is the power standard that defines what we teach. This is a power standard that relates directly to the other academic areas. You will see how important it is to what we teach and how the arts influence the curriculum of all the classes at Montbello.
I hope to use the upcoming election as a teaching tool. I want to inspire my students to vote. If the youth voter turn out is strong, then the outcome of the election will benefit arts education. The students know what they enjoy in school. When Al Gore was asked by Oprah, "who was your favorite teacher?" he replyed that his high school art teacher was his favorite. This is a testament to art education, when a Nobel Peace prize winner can say his favorite teacher was an art teacher.
